Review - Rotten by John Watson

Rotten John Watson Horror Suspense Publisher: Crazy Ink Brad Gilbert and his family live a quiet, happy life in the heart of the Midwest. They have never traveled beyond the borders of their home state, but that changes when Brad wins an online contest.

The Gilbert family jet off for a week of sun and fun in Florida, with Brad packing his trusty journal to document every detail.

The fun ends when they return home and Brad begins to feel unwell. What starts out as a simple rash soon turns into something more horrific.

Take a peek inside the pages of Brad’s journal and read about his descent into hell.

I loved the journal style of this book. It makes it so easy to read and makes you feel closer to the MC. Reading his daily thoughts and feeling the hope and then watching it fade out as he slowly deteriorates. It’s like being on the rollercoaster with him. The scenes at the PD with his wife really adds to the story. It gives the reader a look at what is currently happening and then we dive right back into Brad's thoughts. There were some stomach-churning moments in the book for me which was nice to see from Watson. He’s a vivid writer anyway so this takes things to the next level.

About the Author

Author John Watson

Born under a gloomy, grey, Scottish sky, it is perhaps no real surprise that darkness has always felt comfortable to John Watson. After countless hours spent in his local library, he found that he was more at home in the worlds of Clive Barker, Stephen King, and James Herbert than he was in his own. The need to carve out his own niche in the horror genre drove Watson to slice open his mind and let the words spill onto the page.

From donuts to mysterious karaoke bars in the middle of nowhere, Watson mines the depths of the ordinary to find the evil that lurks beneath the surface. He dares you to join him in his ongoing forays into the dark side.

Watson is the author of Karaoke Night, Crueller, and Off the Grid.
