Review - Whoops! I Woke the Dead

Whoops! I Woke the Dead By: Joseph Rubas Horror Comedy Published: September 24, 2020 Print Length: 121 pages Publisher: Nightmare Press Alex Warner was just your average sixteen-year-old gal – wait, no she wasn’t. Alex Warner was the coolest person to ever live. She had a hot, dorky boyfriend, a nerdy little sister who was actually her cousin, and a book – a really gnarly old book made from human skin. But you see, that’s right up Alex’s alley, because not only is she completely awesome, with her job at Pissy’s Pizza, her volunteer work at the library, and her VSCO friend who gives everyone scrunchies, but she also loves Halloween. And this book is perfect for this year’s witch costume. Only…it’s not a costume book, and when she reads it aloud in the graveyard…

Whoops I Woke the Dead …sorry.

Alex stumbles across a mysterious book while volunteering for Mr. Atkins. The cracked skin-colored book intrigues Alex so much that she snatches it. I don't quite think she was prepared for what would come next. I wasn't too sure what to expect from this book but Rubas really delivered. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The writing is hilarious, and I laughed out loud many times. When Alex wakes the dead it gets even better. Let the turmoil begin! The characters in this book were great and likeable. Alex and Langston were two of my favorites. Alex was easy to love! Her fantastic sense of humor undoubtedly makes this book. Langston was another that stood out to me. I felt like he discovered his moment when the dead came. His energy and enthusiasm for the whole thing was clear. Both characters were extremely fun. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It’s not your average zombie story but it is worth a read and a few laughs. I was engaged from beginning to end. The book is entertaining, and it is wonderfully written. Rubas displays genuine talent and a vivid imagination and I look forward to reading more of his work in the future. Indie Book Addict Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Grab your copy here
